Apple Crunch

This is my absolute favourite way of dehydrating and using apples! Its great for children as the pieces are small and easy to chew. It also looks delicious!

  1. Peel and roughly chop apples then soak in lemon juice or vitamin c powder solution for a couple of minutes. This will prevent browning.

  2. Processing

    I use a hand operated food processor but you can also use an electric one.

    Add the roughly chopped apples to the bowl and process until they are chopped in to small pieces – dont process too much so that it becomes a puree! Pieces approximately 1 cm in size are fine. Alternatively you may find it easier to grate the apples.

  3. Dehydrating

    Cover your dehydrator trays with either greaseproof paper or a non-stick cooking sheet ( available from Pound shops in the UK or buy online from Amazon).

    Spread the chopped apple out on to the sheet fairly thinly. If you like the taste of cinamom sprinkle some cinnamon powder over the chopped apples.Dehydrate at 135 degrees F for approximately 10 hours. The apple pieces should be almost crispy and a nice golden brown colour.

    If the underside is still a bit soft lift the apple mix off the baking sheet and turn it over then dehydrate for another hour.

  4. Storage

    Store in an airtight jar in a cool place. It is important to keep the apple mix dry if you want it to remain crunchy.

  • Sprinkle on cup cakes
  • Just eat!!

Tip: Schedule your dehydrater to run during off peak electricity charge periods for any dehaydrating that takes a long time.
